Get Kids to Design Their Own Spaces

kids bedrooms

Joe Pinto our expert of the day, writes:

If you are designing your new home, keep in mind all members of the family. Kids can get stressed at the idea of moving to a new home, especially if it is in a new city. But by including them in the design of your new home, you help them feel empowered, share with them your excitement about moving, and most likely, discover new and creative ways to meet the needs of everyone in the family.

When designing, and decorating, think long term. Themes are great, but be wary of age-specific trends. Sure, you can always paint over the cartoon character wall stencils next year, but if you’ve gone all out with furniture and bedding that match the theme, that gets expensive, not to mention wasteful. It is best to stick with themes that can evolve as your child ages. If you child is really set on a particular fad you think they’ll hate in a year, compromise. Instead of an entire bed set in that theme, just choose a couple of pillows that reflect it, and go with a more neutral overall theme. Instead of cartoon wallpaper, how about a poster of their favorite cartoon that can be easily removed at any time? Continue Reading »

Each of these real estate options has slightly different considerations which you will want to bear in mind.

Many people first consider buying waterfront real estate for vacation purposes. Perhaps you have taken yearly vacations at a prime piece of waterfront real estate, be it on a river, a lake, beside a mountain creek, or next to the ocean. Let your Personality Color your Home Decor

home decorating

Jim Allen our expert of the day, writes:

Setting out to decorate a new home or redecorating your current abode without a plan can be like driving around an unfamiliar city without a map—you may end up somewhere, but it’s probably not where you wanted go and you may have no idea how you got there. And you may just end up somewhere pretty ugly. Formulating a plan, however, can be a difficult task. Thumbing through home and furniture magazines often just leads to little more than an increased risk of paper cuts, and watching the countless home decorating “reality” shows, while sometimes entertaining, rarely results in an epiphanous (no, its not a word) moment. Actually, according to dictionary.com, it is a word, so take your red squiggly underline and shove it, Microsoft. Anyways…oh yeah, having a plan. This plan I speak of, doesn’t have to be a 10-page manifesto or even a loose outline, in fact, it doesn’t really have to be put in writing. I say, let your personality be your guide. Scott Callender our expert of the day, writes:

Choosing the right paint color in interior design or decorating may seem like a difficult decision. The difficulty for most usually has to do with where to start.
While it would be nice to just hire a whole team of painters and decorators and do it all at once, for most of us it’s just not practical. Not to worry, help is here.
When deciding where to start in selecting a paint color, fabric color or any other interior decorating feature, we have developed a few key points to review that will help guide you to your decision.
Personal Style – A home is a refuge, a personal space that you should feel comfortable in and it should be decorated to match your personal style and not someone else.
But what is your personal style. What types of colors and patterns make you feel comfortable, energetic, romantic, calm and peaceful. A good place to look is in your wardrobe or closet.
