Mr.Andrew Caxton our expert of the day, writes:
It can be a fun experience planning and decorating a kids bedroom, but the problem is that kids often want to have their say when it comes down to it. Usually if they got their way, the room would be turned into a zoo or some kind of child fantasy and this certainly does not fit into the whole feel and d

It’s one thing to decorate a child’s room and another thing to get them to clean it up. The giraffe on the wall didn’t fit the rest of the decor but we figured she would grow out of it and we were right. Just repainted over. no big deal. Now she is 13 and you can’t see the carpet for the clothes. Oy!

I understand what you mean! Kids have the unique ability to pinpoint any item underneath layers of dust and clothes and toys and more. Just before we moved house, I was rushed at work and my partner was again in labour, so we had to hand over tidying and decuttering to a professional home staging team. They spruced the house up and worked with our estate agent to get us the most profit for the house, simple.

I agree. I think that a balance should be struck between letting the child have his way and being sensible at the same time…

Yes it’s very hard to manage the rooms of kids where they scattered there things here and there. But I think if we design and decorate there room according to their wishes. They will always try to make the room clean and managed.

Haha, this is hilarious. I could only imagine what my kids rooms would come out looking like if I gave them freedom to decorate any way they liked.

Ok I agree giving them a free hand would be dangerous but guiding the process and working together can make it fun!

Is the rest of the post broken? Regardless…the topic and responses are more than enough to go on. The real challenge is to decorate a room that grows with the child. Something that is stimulating and big enough to keep them comfortable and happy, while also integrating with the rest of the house decor.

Short but sweet - I can imagine there are hundreds of ideas for decorating kids bedrooms these days. May be worth covering some ideas for the type of technology they expect in their rooms, i.e Audio equipment, LCD’s etc.

How much attention do you pay to your five year old who insists that pink, orange and red are the perfect colors for her walls?

The ideas are modern and progressive, but I don’t know if all the children will like them.

We just decorated our 4 year old’s bedroom and got him involved as well. Obviously we had the final say in the design, but we did involve him in the painting, and let him splash some paint on the walls too. We had to make sure every inch of floor was covered though, or we definitely would have had a disaster.

The article isn’t finished. But why stop at letting the kids decorate, they could build their own addition to the house. Download blueprints from the internet, interview contractors.
