If you are needing to use steam on your grout then it is due for some maintenance. If the steam gets the job done then you should consider sealing the grout when you are done. This will inhibit the growth of mold and mildew and it will maintain the color of the grout. If you are unable to get it looking the way it should, then you might need to think about staining the grout to a uniform color. This can be done by a home owner with some planning and practice.
